The difference in our 4* Accommodation & others
We’ve just got back from a wonderful week in Greece to pay homage to Mike’s Uncle who was lost with all hands on a submarine HMS Trooper just off the coast of Leros, a beautiful Greek Island almost touching Turkey. We went to lay flowers on the sea, we hoped, near to Trooper, but then on the 75th anniversary on 17th October the diving company we had contacted and took us out, stopped, pointed out landmarks & explained we were actually over the submarine, she lay 82 meters below us. Not been dived yet as she is too deep, but identified by sonar… a very poignant moment.
Whilst Island hopping from Athens to Kos to Leros we stayed in quite a few hotels, from 3 star right through to 5 star…I have to say I think we offer even more than we got.
The 1st hotel in Kos had a fabulous location but the bed wasn’t brilliant and the air conditioning was noisy plus it all had a slight run down shabby without being chic feel, the shower over the bath hard work and the ‘bath’ towels thin and what I give as a medium size.
The 2nd hotel in Leros a 4* Boutique hotel was small and delightful, bed excellent, the towels excellent, big bath sheets fluffy with no stains, the shower was a walk in beautifully appointed…but we couldn’t make a cup of tea or coffee as there was no milk to be found and the fridge too small to keep any in, the truth is we were the only guests, but if it was full I think I’d feel a bit overlooked.
The 3rd hotel back in Kos a 5* Spa was an absolute disaster for us…but taught me a huge amount! Not only am I not cut out to stay in an all found hotel with 1,000 other people who’s main object is to bag the best sun lounger by one of the pools, I also don’t appreciate having to get a golf cart to take us to our room as the walk was so far and dining was a nightmare bun fight buffet! The rooms reasonable with a great view & space, but again the embroidered ‘bath’ towels were my medium size, they were stained and thread bare, the shower over the bath was horrible. The room was sterile, no pictures, the full length mirror in a very odd place plus loads of notices about what you can do and can’t do, to include a 64€ charge for the embroidered bath towel if it goes missing…I know how much these towels cost plus they have been job lot embroidered on Industrial machines…I buy way less towels so my purchase price is nowhere as good as theirs and I individually embroider mine – I’m either way undervaluing myself or I’m missing a trick! I suppose the privacy in this situation is that you are just another person…
I take great pride in the presentation and the little touches we provide…up to now I haven’t put in a sewing kit on the basis I can be asked for a needle & thread but I think I shall now pop in a little work basket in each of our rentals.
I can, with hand on heart, (as this trip has clarified for me), say we provide absolutely everything we look for when we stay away, plus we give privacy when & if you want it.
Our A La Carte Services even includes pre arrival shopping, a cake baked if you want, meals cooked too, car hire, chauffeur pick up, tours…you name it we’re on hand.
